Prof David Whittaker OBE
Professor of Forensic Dentistry
David Whittaker is Professor of Forensic Dentistry, University of Wales, Consultant in Dental Surgery, a teacher and researcher in the disciplines of oral biology and forensic dentistry. He is a past Hunterian Professor in the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded the Jacksonian Prize for Research by the same Institution. He is the senior author of the standard text on forensic dentistry in the UK and author of more than 100 publications. He has been a practising expert witness for 30 years. Writing more than 430 reports and statements, he regularly appears in Crown, Appeal, Magistrates and Coroner Courts. Professor Whittaker has been Home Office Adviser in Forensic Dentistry to Wales since 1970. Over this period he has built up the service to the Police, Home Office Pathologists, Lawyers and Forensic Scientists. In his role as expert witness he acts for both the Prosecution (Crown Prosecution Service) and the defence throughout the UK. He has also attended court in the USA, Australia, Norway and Trinidad.
