Jacqueline I McKinley
Jacqueline is currently Senior Project Officer (Osteo-archaeologist) for Wessex Archaeology (Salisbury, UK) and is also a member of British Association Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology (Treasurer), Institute of Field Archaeologist (MIFA), Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and the Palaeopathology Association. She has considerable excavation experience gained from 1977 onwards over a range of sites from Neolithic to post-medieval inclusive, throughout the British Isles and on sites in Italy and France. Since 1985 Jacqueline's increasing involvement has been in osteoarchaeology, specializing in the analysis and study of cremated human bone. To date she has produced over 240 osteo-archaeological reports encompassing over 4650 cremation burials and associated contexts, and c. 1100 inhumation burials. Her involvement with forensic work has been on cases for various UK police forces and with the FCO in Kosovo. She is a visiting lecturer at numerous UK universities. Her research interests include various aspects of cremation involving observations at modern crematoria and experimental reconstruction's of pyre cremations, to increase understanding of pyre technology, cremation rites and rituals.
