Leo Kuper Foundation
The Leo Kuper Foundation is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the eradication of genocide through research, advice, and education. It was created in Washington DC in 1994 following the death of Leo Kuper, with the aim of improving measures to prevent genocide. The main area of work for the past five years has been in the support of the creation of an International Criminal Court, in fact the Foundation advised on a number of genocide related aspects of the ICC Statute. We have also organised a number of conferences, The ICC: What Difference Will it Make and Genocide: the Gravest Violation of Human Rights, to name two, whilst also being involved with the US Holocaust Museum to develop a conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Genocide Convention. The Foundation was consulted by the UK government on plans for commemorating the Holocaust each year on 27th January. The annual course on International Responses to Genocide continues to grow, and the Foundations course reader Cases and Materials on the Crime of Genocide has expanded from one to two volumes, while its Timeline on Developments Towards the Eradication of Genocide has proved popular with students.
