Jon Silverman

Now a freelance journalist, Jon Silverman was the BBC's Home/Legal Affairs correspondent from 1989 to June 2002. He worked for the BBC for many years, including stints in Paris and as a political correspondent at Westminster. He has reported from many countries, including Israel, Lebanon, Cyprus, Rwanda, Nicaragua, South America, the Caribbean and most of Europe, most recently Kosovo. In the 1980's, he did a lot of reporting from Northern Ireland. He has also specialised in war crimes investigations, starting with Scotland Yard's war crimes inquiries into Nazi suspects in the UK. In pursuit of witnesses and/or evidence, he has been to Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, the Ukraine and Poland. Having a particular interest in international justice, Jon has reported from both of the UN's ad hoc war crimes tribunals - the ICTR in Arusha and the ICTY in The Hague.
