Aegis Trust

The Aegis Trust is a genocide prevention initiative founded by Doctors Stephen and James Smith, who co-founded the Beth Shalom Centre, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Aegis intends to act as a catalyst to change responses to genocidal and pre-genocidal situations from subjective policies of reaction to objective, evidence-based policies of prevention. It does not intend to create change alone, but to become an indispensable tool for those in a position to make change and implement prevention strategies. Aegis is driven by the imperative that no-one, whoever they are, should have to face discrimination, even death, as a result of their ethnic origin or beliefs. The founders are under no illusion that there are easy solutions, and have acknowledged from the outset that their goal is ambitious in the extreme: yet we cannot resign ourselves to the inevitability of mass murder in the twenty first century.
