News and press interest – 8th November 2009
"I've learned so much in just one day. I'm an experienced radiographer but our profession is in 2-D. Being able to see, touch and position individual bones and then relate that to what I know and see every day on X-rays has been fantastic." This autumn Inforce launched the first in a series of new one day introductory workshops. Osteology and forensic anthropology for radiographers is designed exclusively for radiographers interested in furthering their knowledge of bone anatomy and pathology and of putting this into a forensic context. Led by Inforce regional advisor, Ambika Flavel, and forensic radiographer and anthropologist, Mark Farmer, the students were taken beyond their everyday experiences of looking at bones as black and white images, to gain practical experience of osteology. Ambika and Mark shared their forensic knowledge and recent practical case experiences with the group, showing how the use of Xrays, a relatively new discipline in forensic examination and identification, is ladding real value to the forensic examination process. The students learned about assessment of age, sex and stature from bones and working in small groups were able to undertake these assessments themselves.
