- to at all times uphold respect for human life and dignity
- to act with integrity and honesty in all circumstances
- to be apolitical
- to provide confidential, informed and impartial advice
- to practice within relevant current legal and regulatory frameworks
- to respect the cultural and religious values of the host country, community or society
- to uphold rules of confidentiality and, where appropriate, of subjudice
- to promote the improvement of standards and services through the development and adoption of protocols and standard operating procedures as well as professional bodies, education, research and best practice
- to keep up-to-date with developments in field and / or laboratory techniques as appropriate
- to refrain from issuing statements which appear to represent the position of the organisation as a whole without the specific authority to do so
- to refrain from issuing statements which appear to represent the position of the relevant profession as a whole without the specific authority to do so
- to prevent and outlaw malpractice
- not to accept core or programme funding from any organisation considered to be inappropriate in any given context.
